Website Updates Planned December 2018
Description
Quick update for the website on what has been completed and the new list of items I hope to implement this year. Progress has been a little slow as I have been doing more research and tweaks lately.
Quick update for the website on what has been completed and the new list of items I hope to implement this year. Progress has been a little slow as I have been doing more research and tweaks lately.
When I first started this site, I didn't put a lot of thought into the name of the domain that I selected. Using my own name seemed like a pretty cool idea. Since that time, I the idea in the back of my mind that I would address it again at a later time. That time has come.
Registered a new domain that points to this site. the-seo-guy.com was available so I purchased it through 1and1.com. I was actually surprised it was available and couldn't help but snag it for $9.99 a year.
It's been a long time in the works. After having taken one step back, I was able to finally catch up to where I was.
During the process of expanding the development site to include more structured data types I found a few things that need tweaks and other items that need a total reworking. I am in hopes that after doing a final round of testing and validation that this will be the model that I use going forward. Here is what I did.
Pagination is a common feature in any listing page. With the amount of development articles I have been posting, I quickly realized, I was going to need to address paging. But I didn't want to just accept the standard implementation.
My plan didn't come all together yesterday or today. I wasn't really able to knock items off my list. I did, however, manage to make some serious progress on images. During the process I also learned some new things ways to improve my web design and graphic design workflows.
As is always the case with solo development and grand ideas, I have been spending a good amount of time trying to collect a library of images based on my previous research. And to think the thread that lead to this whole research and development path was based on Google Material Icons not playing nice with my progressive web application. I also need to look at some social media research results and decide where I am going to go with it.
Over the past few days I have collected a list of features I wanted to implement in to the site. Some of these items may require pulling out bits of code or updating the code base, but I believe it will be worth it in the long run.
Time to submit the site to Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools.
