Some of the objects in the structured data of the site are causing me issue. Namely the itemlist object. I am going to dig through the schema.org page and anything else I can find to see if I can address the issue that is being reported by Googles Structured Data Testing Tool.
Time to submit the site to Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools.
There are a couple of items that I will need to address with the dynamic article system. One of those items is providing a easy way to parse out web page names from a title. This should be pretty easy with some regex and string replace php functions.
On accident, I brought up the Google Chrome DevTools on a tab containing the Bing Search homepage. Before I knew it, I had run a full audit on Bings search page. When I looked at the results, I thought, "Crap, what did I do!" The results weren't great, but they also weren't mine. For fun, I decided to run an audit on the google and bing search pages. Interesting!
It's been awhile since I have worked with htaccess files on a Apache web server. If I recall correctly, I should be able to use the rewrite mod to handle dynamic URIs. Another item to look at is the creation of a dynamic XML sitemap. To the code!
Work has progressed over to the visual side of the spectrum. This post marks the release of the first pass at visual design and hopefully will reveal functionality opportunities for improvement. Here goes nothing!
The speed increase from enabling gZIP compression on a website is a must. It's been a while since I have journeyed in to the world of Apache, which I am pretty sure what 1 and 1 is utilizing. Time to see what I can do through the htaccess file or control panel to enable gzip compression.
At some point, I hope to collect and organize some of my favorite website, web design, web development and SEO tools. I will start with one of the best web tools around, Google PageSpeed Insights.
An issue came up in testing of the category system and I needed a place to make a note about it. I guess I will stick it here for now so that I don't forget about it.
TinyMCE has been around for a long time as a full featured "what you see is what you get editor". It's been a few years since I have used it, so I think it's time to check it out again. Somewhere there was a reference to the release of a cloud based version with additional features. I hope there is still a free community version.
